Friday thoughts!

Well it's less then an hour till midnight and there is no sign of any zombie activity outside and we are not feeling at all feverish with the zombie plague. Hopefully this means that we have a bit more time and all get to enjoy a zombie free Christmas with friends and family.

It's been a busy few months since we entered the zombie blogging world, so we here at BZF headquarters will be taking a well  earned break and be returning in the new year bigger and better, with lots of great content and some exciting new things. We want to thank all of our followers and readers for your support in 2012 and in the event it does all go to hell in the wee hours, hope you have all taken on board some of the tips we have shared.

So Merry Christmas and if we make it have a great new year, oh and don't get bit!!

Friday thought - survival do's and don't

Ok given that BZF has been a bit neglected this week and with the end of  world still looming I thought I should share some do’s and don’ts on how to survive the zombie apocalypse whilst maintaining some sense of style so….
Do make a booking at the hair dresses, been worried about having to endure you natural colour growing through, we'll try balayage! This will make it look like you two tone hair in on purpose!
Don’t wear peplums! Now I know this one might be hard to let go, we all love the stylish flair that a peplum gives to our figures but.. that stylish flair is yet another thing for a zombie to latch onto.
Do get your Lara Croft tomb raider on, now I know deep down inside every girl wants to channel Lara so here is your chance to do so and kick some zombie ass! Think boots and wet look leggings teamed with a fitted jacket.
Don’t wear bright colours. This is no time for colour blocking, you don’t want to sneaking around on supply runs wearing bright fuchsia and cobalt, as stunning a combination as it is, but hello zombie dinner bell.
Do stock up on animal print and neutrals for a stylish alternative to camo gear. I have blogged about this before but I can't really stress this one enough, oh and I love leopard print.
Don't wear stilettos! This is fairly self explanatory!
Do stockpile multipurpose beauty items, you may have to pack light and move fast so will get bogged down if you try and lug around your whole makeup collection. Try a lip and cheek tint, you can even use some as an eye shadow as well, check back soon some reviews soon.

Ok that's is for now! I must go and stocktake my canned goods.

Zombie Pranks!

With the silly season well and truly upon us, what better way to celebrate than with some hilarious zombie prank videos!  I can’t deny that I love pulling off a good prank,  just ask a friend of mine from work!  I have caught her out many times and she always responds with plenty of colourful profanity but secretly I know she loves it.  Enjoy!!

A not so friendly Zombie invades Melbourne:

Ever feel like your daily work routine transforms you into a Zombie?  Check out this New York social experiment:

This prank is making me a big fan of the drive-thru prank scenario:

Slightly disturbing and all kinds of wrong, but at least these Japanese youngsters will be Zombie prepared after this prank:

The end is near

Ok so according to the Mayans the end is very near. There seems to be a number of different theories on the actual date, with calculations having to take into account the changeover of the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, leap years etc..I have seen a few different dates thrown around, some say it would have happened in September, oops, some 6 or 23 December 2012 but the most popular one seems to be 21 December 2012. So this begs the questions, is the zombie uprising almost upon us and do you have your survival plan in order?
Are you going to stay and fortify your home and wait it out, or head to a less populated area? Is your car packed and ready to go with camping gear, supplies and as much leopard print as you can throw together?  Have you booked in yet for that pixie cut? Have you been stockpiling Nivea crème and your favourite hair dye? I don’t know about you but if I am dealing with the terrors of a post-apocalyptic wasteland then I am not dealing with bad regrowth too!!
These are all important questions that must be asked in times like these, next week I will share in more detail what the survival plan is for the BZF team. Well that is if we actually make it till next week.

Stay vigilant and stockpile those canned goods, like…NOW.

Friday thought!

It has been a very busy week and BFZ has been a little neglected this week while the team was kept busy with our day jobs. I don't know about you but things seem to be getting busier as the end of the world rapidly approaches. So do you have your survival plan in order? Make sure you check back next week for some more in depth discussion on so you can survive the apocalypse in the style!

Have a great weekend and start stockpiling

Zombie Trailer Madness!

So now that the Twilight Saga has come to an end, Hollywood has hit the panic button about what to do next - the answer, zombies of course!  It would appear that movies with a zombie theme are being released faster than one of Rihanna’s singles.  That’s right everyone, the humble zombie movie is undergoing some intense mutations and dividing itself into many sub-genres of its own, look out for these titles coming soon!

-        Zombie fans are gagging for World War Z as Brad Pitt takes on the undead in this action blockbuster.

-        The Day focuses on a group of survivors living in a grim post-apocalyptic future as civilization crumbles beneath their feet.

-        13 Eerie sees forensic students exploring a site which was once home to illegal prisoner biological testing – you can guess the rest.

-        I’m looking forward to Re-Kill, set five years after the outbreak; we follow a rag-tag team of Special Ops agents who make the horrifying discovery that a second outbreak may be imminent.

-        Nothing is sacred anymore with the timely Christmas with the Dead, think electrified zombie Santa’s being shot in the face – win!

As a special treat this week I really have saved the best till last!  Doc of the Dead won’t be released for a while but the film asks the hard hitting questions (just like our own Miss K) about the realistic possibility of a Zombie outbreak.  What would you do?  Have you seen the signs?  Check out the trailer below.

Zombies in your ears!

Hello Friends

As Zombies continue to invade our screens, I feel this is the right time to infect the radio waves with an injection of zombie themed anthems. Way back when in the year 1982, Michael Jackson released the phenomenon known as Thriller. The accompanying film clip featured zombies crawling out from their graves and breaking it down with some awesome choreography. I am pleased to report that MJ’s legacy lives on today, as artists from around the globe continue to include Zombies as inspiration for their music. Here are my top five:

5. Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl
Released back in 1999, Living Dead Girl gives you a healthy serve of industrial metal set against the back drop of a grainy black and white 1930’s inspired film clip.

4. The Cranberries – Zombie
Heralding from the mid 90’s, the Cranberries use the humble Zombie as a metaphor to protest the political troubles in Northern Ireland, while at the same time reaching number 1 in multiple countries around the globe.

3. The Creepshow – Zombies ate her brain
These Canadian songsters describe their style as ‘Psychobilly’. Even though I just came across this song a few days ago, it still makes the number 3 position as I feel Miss K would appreciate the leopard print frock, amazing big hair and the hilarious abrupt ending.

2. Natalia Kills – Zombie
In a similar approach to the Cranberries, Natalia Kills slays your favourites with this 2010 dark pop gem, by describing her boyfriend as a cold heartless Zombie with an eerie film clip to match.

1. Laura Shigihara - Zombies on your Lawn
Never heard of Laura Shigihara?? Me neither, but I am now this new Lady Gaga's number one follower on Twitter. At the risk of sounding totally mental, I’m backing Zombies on your Lawn for Youtube viral glory!  With over 13 million hits already, this instant classic is part of the Plants Vs Zombies game soundtrack.  This song has tongue-in-cheek lyrics and a film clip with footage from the game which takes it to another level of psycho tropic heaven! Trust me when I say you will not be able to get this tune out of your head.

So there you have it ladies and gents, I hope you now have a fine appreciation for the role that Zombies play in our forever evolving music industry. And how about you, did I miss one of your Zombie themed faves? Comment below and share your favourite Zombie anthems with a brief description!

Apocalyptic hair stylin’

Always wanted to be brave and try a pixie cut? Well the zombie apocalypse would be the perfect time to try this style out. I mean think about it, long luxurious locks may be all well and good at the moment, but when the rising starts to go down, said locks could be the difference between surviving and being dragged into the rancid gnashing teeth of your now undead next door neighbour by your fashionable pony tail or top knot!! Are you willing to take that risk??
Also once in survival mode when the power and hot water are all cut how will you care for your once glorious mane?? A pixie cut requires product to give it texture and prevent it from looking like a hair hat, and what works better than any product then 2nd, 3rd, or 28 day hair!! You will be rocking texture like there is no tomorrow (literally).
So what are you more scared of, zombies or going for the chop??

So make that appointment girls and don't get bit!

Till next time.

Introducing...

Hello Friends

Mr Vitamin G here, just a quick post to introduce myself as the newest member of the ‘For the Love of Bunnies Zombies and Frocks’ team. First of all I want to thank Miss K for raising the hard hitting issues surrounding the pending zombie apocalypse and the importance of fashion when surviving such an event. I also think bunnies can be pretty damn cute when they haven't been ripped open for a gizzard sandwich by a woodland dwelling zombie.

So an insight into my future musings here as we journey down the highways filled with broken down cars. I will be bringing you a blood soaked serve of pop culture with a twist. We can all agree that The Walking Dead has brought the idea of surviving in a dystopian society back to the forefront and Hollywood is going absolutely gangbusters with this concept. It is amongst this feeding frenzy that I will be bringing you the latest and greatest tasty treats from movies to music and everything else in between!!!

Friday thought

Well I have spent most of the week out of action and delirious from some nasty virus, which at times in my delium I was convinced I was ground zero for the zombie plague! But after dome shocking feverish nights I am pleased to report that I have survived and appear to be on the mend! Don't pack away your survival kits too soon though because you just never know when it may strike!!

Camping survival style

On the weekend I agreed to go camping with Mr K as I decided it was time to brush up on my bush survival skills for the impending 'event'. Now Mr K is not a true believer of the zombie apocalypse and scoffs at me for over stocking the pantry with non perishables and my strict home security rules, but he is an avid camper and has the upper body strength to wield an axe through a zombie skull if it came to it.

So we chose a spot about one hour out of our city, close enough for supply runs but far enough away from the hungry hoards of city infected. Our camp site was slightly elevated and in the centre of the camp area and had sight lines for all angles. It did have some facilities which where questionable but hey better then a shovel, and was on the river so plenty of access to fresh running water.  All round it would be a great spot to set up a survival camp except for one major draw back, it's quite close to the highway which we all know when it all goes down will be chocked full of abandoned cars and walking corpses.  Perhaps we did not have to forage for our own food  and did a quick grocery ron on the way out, oh and purchased our fire wood from the petrol station and took the iPod, but hey you have to start somewhere!!

I did learn a few valuable lessons such as how to finally skip a rock across the water (well making your own entertainment will be important once everything is lost), how to make and cook over a fire and that when mirrors are not in the equation my care factor of how I look is reduced!

                                                   The camp site
                                                   We love camping!
                                                   Dinner survival style
                                                   The facilities!
                                                   The highway
                                                   The view

Overall it was a fun weekend and I would be happy to spend some more weekends developing my survival skills out in the wilds of the Australian bush. I actualy came home really relaxed but I did seem to either catch a cold or the zombie virus, I guess I will find out soon enough.

So what have you been doing to start develping some of those skills that will help you survive?

Till next tme, stay safe and don't get bit!

Happy Halloween

I hope you all had a fun Halloween yesterday. In recent years Halloween has started to really take off here in Australia and I for one am on board! This is probably not that surprising for someone who has a zombie blog.

Of course there are the haters out there who say it's too commercial, it's not our tradition blah blah blah but they seem happy enough to jump on board with Valentines day and St Pats day and who cares, it's fun, lets make it part of our tradition and celebrate with family and friends. I mean how many chances do we get as adults to play dress ups? Sales for Halloween merchandise were up 30% from last year and I would say this trend will continue to grow and Halloween will be here to stay in Oz (sorry haters). It is fast becoming one of my favourite holidays, so here is a peak at my Halloween for 2012.

Catching up!

Last week I finally got to catch up on the first 2 episodes of The Walking Dead. We get it 30 hours behind the States and some of my work mates had planned to have a little launch part to commemorate the series return. Alas with our busy schedules we couldn't do it in first week so instead decided to make it a 2 episode event. We all got into the spirit and dressed up; there was Dale and Glen, a few bite victims possibly on the turn, some that had already succumbed to the virus and one rather huge and very real hunting knife!! I turned up as bite victim, which practically was the case as I survived a magpie swooping attack on the way!! We feasted on pizza and eyeball punch and all agreed that season 3 delivered all we hoped, with a few more shocking moments then we bargained for!!

Mr Vitamin G  - he didn't make it!! Unfortunatly he is also my PR guy so I wonder what will happen to my readership!

Well I now have episode 3 in my hot little hand so I am off to see what happens next , stay safe and don't get bit.

Prints for the apocalypse

A couple of weeks ago the lovely Mr K convinced me to buy a leopard print frock. I do have a few leopard print accessories but have never really been brave enough to take the plunge into all over print.
Anyway plunge I did (he was paying) and this new addition to my wardrobe got me thinking… a leopard print frock is perfect attire for surviving the zombie apocalypse!! I mean leopards have those amazing pelts for a reason; it’s the ultimate in nature camouflage!! Now traditional camo is not for everyone, but a leopard print frock would make the perfect replacement. Imagine how you will be able to blend into the surroundings when hiding out in the woods with fellow survivors when a few rouge zombies come wandering through your camp. Ok so there is the issue of still smelling like a living zombie meal. Perhaps someone like Demeter Fragrance can release a 'dead' scent and then you will be practically invisible in the eyes of the zombie!! And if the worse does come to pass and you do get bitten… well at least you will be a well dressed on trend dead person!!

It's go time!!

Season 3 of The Walking Dead is almost upon us and I can't wait.

The episode would probably be airing right now in the states, but here in Australia we have to wait a little till it will be available. Here is the link to some sneak peeks of what to expect!!

My favourite character is Daryl Dixon, there is something very sexy about a dirty survivor wearing plaid and wedeling a cross bow!! I can’t wait to see what is in store for him.

Zombie survival skincare!

Ok there has been some chatter amongst fellow zombie enthusiasts in regards to having a zombie apocalypse preparedness kit or survival kit ready to go when it all starts to go down. This has caused me to ponder on what I would include in my kit. Of course there is the obvious items, water, non-perishable food, matches etc. but a girl still wants to look her best even in the face of extinction. Space will obviously be an issue as the kit may have to be carried on foot when fleeing from the hungry hoards so beauty items must be selected very carefully and multipurpose use will be an absolute must. So the first thing that comes to mind that is fit for purpose is original Nivea Creme! Women have been using this cream for generations so I figure that we should at least have a sample when we rebuild the new world!

It can be used in many ways so here are a few tips to save your skin when the time comes:

As a moisturiser: Of course this is the obvious but you can use it on both the body and face and a little goes a long way, great also for protecting your skin from the harsh elements when your forced to spend a lot of times outdoors which seems to be the case for survivors. It is also great for soothing both sun and wind burn.

As a cleanser - to get all that grime of your face and the occasional blood spatter, when you may not be near running water is going to be tricky. Smother this stuff over your face and then wipe off with a flannel or cotton pads whatever is on hand, and you will have clean silky soft skin after! This may not be for everyone, like those of you that like that scrubbed clean feeling but hello, it is the end of the world!

As a leave on facemask – the stress of surviving in the new world is going to take it’s toll so spread a thick layer of cream over your face and just leave it to do its work! In the morning you will wake up with glowing soft skin.

As an eye cream – A purpose eye cream is going to be a luxury that is just not going to be feasible post apocalypse and lack of sleep due to keeping watch at night means tired puffy eyes and dark circles, so just dab Nivea carefully around the eye area and hey presto, good bye crow’s feet and dark circles.

Another benefit is that you can buy this buy this stuff everywhere, supermarkets, pharmacies, department stores etc. so it will be easy to find on supply raids!!

Till next time

Monday 1 October 2012

Hello!!
A few months ago I started watching The Walking Dead ( a late comer I know)  and this seems to have lead from one thing to another and now after my 8th zombie novel I am in full blown zombie obsession. I just find the whole concept fascinating, the whole breakdown of a society; the moral decisions faced in order to survive etc. (believe me I could go on and on). But I also love pretty clothes, tattoos, shoes, anything related to a woodland creatures and pretty much anything pretty with a touch of whimsy. So after annoying all my colleagues, my partner and friends with my constant zombie apocalypse musings, I thought why not channel all of these loves into a single creative outlet and blog!!
So here I am, and well, it could at times get a bit weird, but I also think it will be lots of fun! So join me as I share my ramblings on the zombies, survival, frocks, shoes and many random things!
