DIY Zombie wallet

Here's my customised zombie wallet survival kit!

And some details on how I created it.

It struck me that a wallet was a pretty handy way to carry things so I bought a cheap fabric wallet and went to work.

By sewing across the wallet were it folds I turned the money slot into three smaller pockets. Each the perfect size for a ziplock bag. So I made three kits:
- medicine kit - alcohol wipe, razor blade, painkillers, cotton wool, heavy duty band aids etc
- snare kit - fishing line, hooks, snares, wire, etc
- tool kit - duct tape, hack saw blade, string, needles and thread, magneto file for sharpening knives etc

In the other pockets and slots there is a mini cigarette lighter, small pen knife, whistle, information cards and money. I picked up a Munkees compass, thermometer and mini LED light combo for $10 and cable tied it to the back of the wallet. Then added a spare karabiner.

I found an iron-on zombie patch and some cool zombie pins at a local store so added for some bling. Also designed a label to fit in the clear plastic pocket.

So it's a bit too fat for the hip pocket but is okay for an inside jacket pocket or clipping to your belt or backpack. I saw some interesting travelers wallets that fit under your arm. It is easy enough to rig this up with some paracord. And of course there are those money belts for travelers too. Both offer possibilities.

Mmm maybe I should get the sewing machine out?

Camping survival style

On the weekend I agreed to go camping with Mr K as I decided it was time to brush up on my bush survival skills for the impending 'event'. Now Mr K is not a true believer of the zombie apocalypse and scoffs at me for over stocking the pantry with non perishables and my strict home security rules, but he is an avid camper and has the upper body strength to wield an axe through a zombie skull if it came to it.

So we chose a spot about one hour out of our city, close enough for supply runs but far enough away from the hungry hoards of city infected. Our camp site was slightly elevated and in the centre of the camp area and had sight lines for all angles. It did have some facilities which where questionable but hey better then a shovel, and was on the river so plenty of access to fresh running water.  All round it would be a great spot to set up a survival camp except for one major draw back, it's quite close to the highway which we all know when it all goes down will be chocked full of abandoned cars and walking corpses.  Perhaps we did not have to forage for our own food  and did a quick grocery ron on the way out, oh and purchased our fire wood from the petrol station and took the iPod, but hey you have to start somewhere!!

I did learn a few valuable lessons such as how to finally skip a rock across the water (well making your own entertainment will be important once everything is lost), how to make and cook over a fire and that when mirrors are not in the equation my care factor of how I look is reduced!

                                                   We love camping!

                                                   The facilities!

Overall it was a fun weekend and I would be happy to spend some more weekends developing my survival skills out in the wilds of the Australian bush. I actualy came home really relaxed but I did seem to either catch a cold or the zombie virus, I guess I will find out soon enough.

So what have you been doing to start develping some of those skills that will help you survive?

Till next tme, stay safe and don't get bit!

Hello!!
A few months ago I started watching The Walking Dead ( a late comer I know)  and this seems to have lead from one thing to another and now after my 8th zombie novel I am in full blown zombie obsession. I just find the whole concept fascinating, the whole breakdown of a society; the moral decisions faced in order to survive etc. (believe me I could go on and on). But I also love pretty clothes, tattoos, shoes, anything related to a woodland creatures and pretty much anything pretty with a touch of whimsy. So after annoying all my colleagues, my partner and friends with my constant zombie apocalypse musings, I thought why not channel all of these loves into a single creative outlet and blog!!
So here I am, and well, it could at times get a bit weird, but I also think it will be lots of fun! So join me as I share my ramblings on the zombies, survival, frocks, shoes and many random things!
