What's in Mrs K's apocalyptic makeup bag

So by now you all know that I strongly believe that the zombie apocalypse does not mean that you have to go around looking all haggard and pasty, there will be enough to deal with so I am not dealing with looking almost as dead as the zombies!! A bit of colour people, please!

This has inspired me to give some thought on what products I would include in my apocalypse make up bag as a regular feature here on BZF. I will be scouting for products that are readily available, so easy to stockpile and can be used a few different ways so I can save on precious space if having to travel on foot. And this is also the perfect excuse for me to subscribe to another beauty box! Well how else is a girl meant to do her product research!!

Now you may be thinking come on, makeup in the apocalypse…. Be realistic. I am no fool, I know that there will be days when there is no chance to ‘put my face on’ or things will get just too hard to find, but I will never stop caring about uneven skin tone and looking washed out!!

So here is the first zombie apocalypse ‘must have’ I have found.

Natio Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream – BB (beauty balms) creams seem to be where it’s at right now in the beauty world. I recently got this in a Bellabox as a sample and now I am hooked. This product covers provides coverage like a foundation and also acts as a moisturiser, it has an SPF 15 and soothes red skin, also helps control oil  and it also has anti-ageing properties!! So what could be more perfect for all that stress that apocalyptic conditions will place on one’s skin?  You can replace your moisturiser, anti-ageing serum, concealer and foundation with this one product and free up some precious space in your makeup bag. I have super precious difficult skin and most foundations just disappear within minutes on my face. I tried this during the really hot weather we had last month and it stayed on for hours and hours so I really feel it could go the distance when you’re getting all sweated up evading the hungry hoards. It retails for around $15.00 and you can find it in most Department stores.  I say stock up on this one.

So look after your face and don't get bit.

Friday thought - survival do's and don't

Ok given that BZF has been a bit neglected this week and with the end of  world still looming I thought I should share some do’s and don’ts on how to survive the zombie apocalypse whilst maintaining some sense of style so….
Do make a booking at the hair dresses, been worried about having to endure you natural colour growing through, we'll try balayage! This will make it look like you two tone hair in on purpose!
Don’t wear peplums! Now I know this one might be hard to let go, we all love the stylish flair that a peplum gives to our figures but.. that stylish flair is yet another thing for a zombie to latch onto.
Do get your Lara Croft tomb raider on, now I know deep down inside every girl wants to channel Lara so here is your chance to do so and kick some zombie ass! Think boots and wet look leggings teamed with a fitted jacket.
Don’t wear bright colours. This is no time for colour blocking, you don’t want to sneaking around on supply runs wearing bright fuchsia and cobalt, as stunning a combination as it is, but hello zombie dinner bell.
Do stock up on animal print and neutrals for a stylish alternative to camo gear. I have blogged about this before but I can't really stress this one enough, oh and I love leopard print.
Don't wear stilettos! This is fairly self explanatory!
Do stockpile multipurpose beauty items, you may have to pack light and move fast so will get bogged down if you try and lug around your whole makeup collection. Try a lip and cheek tint, you can even use some as an eye shadow as well, check back soon some reviews soon.

Ok that's is for now! I must go and stocktake my canned goods.

Zombie survival skincare!

Ok there has been some chatter amongst fellow zombie enthusiasts in regards to having a zombie apocalypse preparedness kit or survival kit ready to go when it all starts to go down. This has caused me to ponder on what I would include in my kit. Of course there is the obvious items, water, non-perishable food, matches etc. but a girl still wants to look her best even in the face of extinction. Space will obviously be an issue as the kit may have to be carried on foot when fleeing from the hungry hoards so beauty items must be selected very carefully and multipurpose use will be an absolute must. So the first thing that comes to mind that is fit for purpose is original Nivea Creme! Women have been using this cream for generations so I figure that we should at least have a sample when we rebuild the new world!

It can be used in many ways so here are a few tips to save your skin when the time comes:

As a moisturiser: Of course this is the obvious but you can use it on both the body and face and a little goes a long way, great also for protecting your skin from the harsh elements when your forced to spend a lot of times outdoors which seems to be the case for survivors. It is also great for soothing both sun and wind burn.

As a cleanser - to get all that grime of your face and the occasional blood spatter, when you may not be near running water is going to be tricky. Smother this stuff over your face and then wipe off with a flannel or cotton pads whatever is on hand, and you will have clean silky soft skin after! This may not be for everyone, like those of you that like that scrubbed clean feeling but hello, it is the end of the world!

As a leave on facemask – the stress of surviving in the new world is going to take it’s toll so spread a thick layer of cream over your face and just leave it to do its work! In the morning you will wake up with glowing soft skin.

As an eye cream – A purpose eye cream is going to be a luxury that is just not going to be feasible post apocalypse and lack of sleep due to keeping watch at night means tired puffy eyes and dark circles, so just dab Nivea carefully around the eye area and hey presto, good bye crow’s feet and dark circles.

Another benefit is that you can buy this buy this stuff everywhere, supermarkets, pharmacies, department stores etc. so it will be easy to find on supply raids!!

Till next time
