Where it all began.....

It’s clear to see that zombies are proving to be more than a passing craze and this splat-tastic sub genre is comfortably standing on its own two rotting legs.  But when did our obsession with the humble zombie begin?  Who do we have to thank for this phenomenon?  You guessed it, the Zombie Godfather himself Mr George A Romero.

Now I know many of you have seen countless incarnations of zombie movies from ‘Zombie Strippers’ to ‘Stag Night of the Dead’ – some worth seeing and some you should avoid like Tori Spellings plastic surgeon.  The Night of the Living Dead, released way back in 1968 was ground breaking for its time.  Heavily criticised for its explicit content, four sequels have since been released sprawling over five decades and at the same time has inspired a generation of film makers to add in their own twist.

If you haven’t already, I would recommend hunting down Romero’s dead collection.  There is always a point to be made or subliminal social commentary weaved into the background of his films.  Amazon UK has a boxset available but it is missing the latest entry Survival of the Dead, or you can rent them out from your local dvd store.    Either way it’s a treat to see where all the madness began!

Get Infected!

Hello friends, I am very excited this week to bring your attention to a new slice of terror in a world ravaged by zombies!  Infected is an ebook that literally makes you the star of the show by allowing the reader to make decisions which alter how the story plays out.

Author James Schannep has obviously been inspired by the ‘choose your own adventure’ books (remember those?) and has taken it to a whole new level by adding in the survival element with a strategic twist.   No leaf has been left unturned as there are a whopping 50 possible endings as you attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse!

I don’t know about you BZF fans, but this inclusive take on the genre sounds like a plague full of fun, will you dare to enter the world of Infected?  Check out the trailer below!!

Zombies on the run!!!

That’s right BZF fans, zombies are on the move and they might be coming your way in 2013!!  Has the apocalypse already begun you might ask?  Have the dead crawled out from their graves?  Is Britney Spears pregnant again? No.  But expect all hell to break loose when the ‘Zombie Escape – Survival Challenge’ comes to a city near you!

So here’s the premise.  An obstacle course is set and you either get to participate as a survivor or a zombie.  The survivors navigate their way through the outdoor  5km track whilst trying to hang on to their health flags – think Oz Tag but with the infected chasing you like an all you can eat buffet!  If running for your life or dressing up as a rotting corpse is not your thing, you also have the option of being a spectator and watching the chaos unfold before your very eyes.

Dates have not been announced and this is the first event of its kind in Australia, but you better believe that BZF will bring you a review of what is sure to be a yearly bloodbath on the zombie lover’s calendar!

Zombies Australian Style!

Greetings friends, today I am bringing an Aussie inspiration to your attention.  Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner are two brothers who have decided to create their very own zombie epic which promises to be a fusion of Mad Max and Dawn of the Dead, AWESOME!!
Basically these talented boys have been making short films together for ages and have developed the skills to produce their very own feature, enter the scene ‘Wyrmwood’ a cult classic in the making.  The cool part about this film is the public support that has led to $36,515 being raised to help get this baby across the line for a 2013 release date.  To create hype, the boys gave incentives for fans e.g. $500 = a guest appearance in the film as a zombie, or $30 = a limited edition blu-ray signed copy!!

I’m sure all you BZF fans will be grabbing your tickets like a zombie with a bowl of brains to see this on the silver screen, so check out the trailer below and if you would like more info click here.

Friday thought

Hello Friends, next week I pass the baton back to Miss K as she arrives home from her honeymoon with Mr K.  Just in time, as this weekend I am flying over to the UK to be best man at my high school buddies wedding!  Seriously what’s with all these weddings lately, shouldn’t we be more concerned with the impending apocalypse??
With travel on my mind I thought I would share with you one of my greatest fears, please see below:

You guessed it, I am terrified of balding.

Emergency Room Fashion

When the zombie plague hits, you can be sure that our hospitals are going to feel the brunt of it as people get tested and issued with green or red wristbands.  Mindful of this, BZF sent an operative undercover this week to see how well our local hospital was functioning and checked if it would be up to the pressure of a mass zombie infection.  It was a quick 5:00am dash to the emergency centre, and well, the initial report is not pretty.

Let’s face it, what is it with those white hospital gowns! We commend the use of practical natural fibres like cotton but surely they could have some designer colours?  Some prints at least.  How about adding a pocket for your iPhone?  Why do they use tie fastenings, have they not heard of Velcro?

Seriously the style is archaic and in desperate need of a fashion upgrade.  And the whole “put it on backwards” thing has got us stumped.  Did some half drunken medical intern start this as a practical joke and somehow it has become a Standard Operation Procedure?  Walking around with your bum hanging out – really.

We believe, like everything, it is a Government conspiracy. Like tobacco plain packaging it is a psychological trick to reduce the pressure on our hospitals. We can image Miss K’s views on this…

Miss K: “Honey I’m feeling dizzy and my skin is turning grey.
Mr K: “Let’s get you to the hospital and checked out!”
Miss K “What, no way!  I wouldn't be seen undead in one of those hospital gowns.  You can just lock me in the garage. Oh and sharpen up the axe just in case”

Friday thought!!

While Miss K continues to enjoy her honeymoon, we here at BZF are extremely pleased that its all smooth sailing for the wedded couple so far.......But what if it wasn't??  We've all heard the term 'Bridezilla' but what about those bridesmaids gone bad?  See Mr Rimsky's depiction below:

I'm fairly certain this would be any blushing brides worst nightmare - I mean, picking bridesmaids dresses is a big deal right?  To prove my point check out the spine tingling trailer for Rec 3: Genesis, this is one special day you would never forget!

Naughty Santa!!

Last year more than any other, I wanted Santa to give me a pet zombie for Christmas.  Mainly to serve as an excellent conversation piece at cocktail parties and to eat Delta Goodrem.  Alas, my wish did not come true.  Instead, my significant other decided to surprise me with some unique gift ideas to appease my insanity.

Dead Rising 2 (PS3) is an action-adventure horror video game where you take on the character of motocross champion Chuck Greene.  Only problem is, the world is overrun with zombies and poor ol’ Chuck’s little girl is infected and at risk from zombification – OMG!  Luckily for Chuck he has a motor bike, access to hundreds of collectable weapons and his badass skills to punch, kick, maim and disembowel any zombies which try to stop him from getting his daughters medication.  If you’re a stress head like me, then you will love the thousands (up to 7000 zombies can appear on screen at the same time) of undead, yearning for the taste of your flesh as you try to evade their filthy mitts!

For something a bit more strategic and inclusive of an elite group of friends attending your next soiree, you should really grab yourself Zombie Fluxx.  This is a card game with a twist where the rules always change and literally any player can win/lose faster than Kim Kardashian’s marriage.  Despite being a little confusing at first, Zombie Flux is a lot of fun and with its fast pace can entertain for a good hour or two!

With video games becoming more realistic and card games stepping it up, the lack of a mindless zombie under my Christmas Tree was all forgotten, maybe this year??

Friday thought!

Hello Friends, Mr Vitamin G here stocking the supply cupboard while Miss K ties the knot with the ever valiant Mr K.  Despite the fact that our Mayan friends prediction did not come to fruition, I still thought it prudent to present you with a short play list of lethal tunes to party with like Lindsay Lohan on a Tuesday night.  Beginning with some moody apocalyptic anthems, this playlist has it all from Nu Metal, Dubstep, a random zombie themed Country song and of course a good spoonful of sugar-coated-pop.  In the wise words of Britney Spears, if everything is about to go belly up, shouldn’t we ‘keep on dancing till the world ends’?
End of the world as we know it playlist!

To hear all the tracks in a row just click 'Play All' located in the black ribbon at the top of the page.

Love is in the air!

Well after a week back at my day job my Christmas break feels like a distant memory, but I can’t complain because today is my last day  and I am off for the rest of the month!! Miss K is very soon about to become a Mrs! Yes that’s right; I am heading off to get hitched!!

Getting married might seem to be quite optimistic for someone who is obsessed with preparing for the end but I figure if things go wrong it will look something like this...

Besides,  Mr K has pretty impressive upper body strength and he is pretty cute so in an apocalyptic world that makes him a pretty good catch in my eyes.

So I will be taking a break from technology and spending a few weeks at the beach with my new husband, drinking cocktails, swimming and reading a great deal of zombie fiction no doubt, my Kobo is packed full of zombie holiday reading.

But never fear BZF headquarters will be still be manned with Mr Vitamin G heading things up while I am on my break. I am sure ihe has been spending his holidays coming up with loads of killer content so make sure you come and see what he has to say!! I will be back in February refreshed and rearing to go for a huge year of zombie blogging and not to mention the return of The Walking Dead from the mid-season break (what was that about anyway).
So take care and try not to turn before I get back

Miss K

Zombie Trailer Madness!

So now that the Twilight Saga has come to an end, Hollywood has hit the panic button about what to do next - the answer, zombies of course!  It would appear that movies with a zombie theme are being released faster than one of Rihanna’s singles.  That’s right everyone, the humble zombie movie is undergoing some intense mutations and dividing itself into many sub-genres of its own, look out for these titles coming soon!

-        Zombie fans are gagging for World War Z as Brad Pitt takes on the undead in this action blockbuster.

-        The Day focuses on a group of survivors living in a grim post-apocalyptic future as civilization crumbles beneath their feet.

-        13 Eerie sees forensic students exploring a site which was once home to illegal prisoner biological testing – you can guess the rest.

-        I’m looking forward to Re-Kill, set five years after the outbreak; we follow a rag-tag team of Special Ops agents who make the horrifying discovery that a second outbreak may be imminent.

-        Nothing is sacred anymore with the timely Christmas with the Dead, think electrified zombie Santa’s being shot in the face – win!

As a special treat this week I really have saved the best till last!  Doc of the Dead won’t be released for a while but the film asks the hard hitting questions (just like our own Miss K) about the realistic possibility of a Zombie outbreak.  What would you do?  Have you seen the signs?  Check out the trailer below.

Zombies in your ears!

Hello Friends

As Zombies continue to invade our screens, I feel this is the right time to infect the radio waves with an injection of zombie themed anthems. Way back when in the year 1982, Michael Jackson released the phenomenon known as Thriller. The accompanying film clip featured zombies crawling out from their graves and breaking it down with some awesome choreography. I am pleased to report that MJ’s legacy lives on today, as artists from around the globe continue to include Zombies as inspiration for their music. Here are my top five:

5. Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl
Released back in 1999, Living Dead Girl gives you a healthy serve of industrial metal set against the back drop of a grainy black and white 1930’s inspired film clip.

4. The Cranberries – Zombie
Heralding from the mid 90’s, the Cranberries use the humble Zombie as a metaphor to protest the political troubles in Northern Ireland, while at the same time reaching number 1 in multiple countries around the globe.

3. The Creepshow – Zombies ate her brain
These Canadian songsters describe their style as ‘Psychobilly’. Even though I just came across this song a few days ago, it still makes the number 3 position as I feel Miss K would appreciate the leopard print frock, amazing big hair and the hilarious abrupt ending.

2. Natalia Kills – Zombie
In a similar approach to the Cranberries, Natalia Kills slays your favourites with this 2010 dark pop gem, by describing her boyfriend as a cold heartless Zombie with an eerie film clip to match.

1. Laura Shigihara - Zombies on your Lawn
Never heard of Laura Shigihara?? Me neither, but I am now this new Lady Gaga's number one follower on Twitter. At the risk of sounding totally mental, I’m backing Zombies on your Lawn for Youtube viral glory!  With over 13 million hits already, this instant classic is part of the Plants Vs Zombies game soundtrack.  This song has tongue-in-cheek lyrics and a film clip with footage from the game which takes it to another level of psycho tropic heaven! Trust me when I say you will not be able to get this tune out of your head.

So there you have it ladies and gents, I hope you now have a fine appreciation for the role that Zombies play in our forever evolving music industry. And how about you, did I miss one of your Zombie themed faves? Comment below and share your favourite Zombie anthems with a brief description!

Introducing...

Hello Friends

Mr Vitamin G here, just a quick post to introduce myself as the newest member of the ‘For the Love of Bunnies Zombies and Frocks’ team. First of all I want to thank Miss K for raising the hard hitting issues surrounding the pending zombie apocalypse and the importance of fashion when surviving such an event. I also think bunnies can be pretty damn cute when they haven't been ripped open for a gizzard sandwich by a woodland dwelling zombie.

So an insight into my future musings here as we journey down the highways filled with broken down cars. I will be bringing you a blood soaked serve of pop culture with a twist. We can all agree that The Walking Dead has brought the idea of surviving in a dystopian society back to the forefront and Hollywood is going absolutely gangbusters with this concept. It is amongst this feeding frenzy that I will be bringing you the latest and greatest tasty treats from movies to music and everything else in between!!!
