This is a 1978 advert for long life survival food. It is from an American self sufficiency magazine, one of many my mum would pick up second hand from op shops. And as a young kid I loved flicking through these magazines, learning how to grow Indian maize or fend off a grizzly bear attack.
  

Boy doesn't that food look really appetising! Bet it tastes even better after 10 years sitting in the shed. Not sure if the company is still around, but these days you can get tasty freeze dried meals like braised lamb in red wine. Anyway, that brings us to this week's issue of Hal - making you own ration packs.

Oh No They Didn't!!!

Greetings friends, today we take a steel bat and smack the crap out of all your favourite childhood memories.  That’s right BZF fans, all those stories you grew to love and enjoy as a child have now been put through the grinder and served up as an eyeball risotto.

To be more clear, a few authors have decided to convert a series of popular children’s stories into adult’s only fare.  Let’s start with ‘That’s Not Your Mommy Anymore’, a cautionary tale of what to expect when mummy is more interested in your intestines than helping you with your homework.  Maybe you would prefer ‘Pat The Zombie’ a humorous take on ‘Pat The Bunny’ where your tactile senses are challenged with a grotesque transformation of the old touch-and-feel.  Just imagine skimming your fingers over mummy’s empty eye socket or pinching dads decaying jaw!

Other notable mentions include All My Friends Are Dead, 10 Little Zombies: A Love Story, Jack and Jill Went Up To Kill and The Very Hungry Zombie.  The above titles really are a guilty little pleasure if you’re willing to have a few innards and gizzards drizzled over your childhood memories.

Friday thought

Well this week saw the final episode of season 3 of The Walking Dead ( insert sad face here) so I will have to rely on watching old episodes to get my weekly Daryl fix ( insert sad face again) . The group suffered their losses this season and I can't wait to see where it all goes in season 4.

What's in Mrs K's apocalyptic makeup bag

Ok it’s time to review another product that you can be dead certain (or undead) will be stockpiled and in my makeup bag when the announcement to evacuate or become zombie food is made!

This one ticks all the box’s as far as an multipurpose beauty item goes. The product is Col. Lecta Colour Cheek Tint by Australian beauty brand, Bloom. I picked this up a while ago now in a sample box and it is now one of my daily go to items and I will certainly be purchasing this when I have run out.

This is way more than just a mere cheek tint. It comes in a cute and more importantly space saving stackable pot. There is also a great range of colours to suit any post-apocalyptic complexion. It has a lovely creamy consistency which can really help with those survival exposed dry cheeks but its real beauty is the other ways you can wear it. The colour I been  using is yarra, which is a light peachy colour and it works as an eye shadow, a blush and sometimes even when on the run a lip tint too. What could be a more perfect item for my apocalyptic make up bag, I ask??

So look after your face while you still have one and don't get bit.

Zombies Vs Violins?

Ok before you all think this is the musical adaptation of Plants Vs Zombies, hold on to your Mrs K approved zombie preparedness kit!!  Allow me to bring the name Lindsey Stirling to your attention.  Now why would I be writing about an ex contestant from season 5 of Americas Got Talent you ask?  Well, this fancy little fiddler has decided to give Michael Jackson’s Thriller a run for its money with the film clip to her recent single Moon Trance!

Now I understand your raised eyebrow at a cute violinist versing a pack of flesh hungry zombies, but Lindsey is fast becoming known for bending and blending all kinds of genres with her classical background.  There’s no denying that this little pocket rockets enthusiasm is infectious in this video and the zombies choreography along with the old school make-up make Moon Trance a fun ride for all.  Enjoy!
