Offensive Zombies??
Hey BZF babes, this week we are going to talk about a
rather sensitive subject, no I’m not talking about Justin Bieber’s attempt at ‘drag
racing’ rather an age old debate about kids and violence in the media. ‘Why so serious Mr Vitamin G’ I hear you all
say, well, the BZF team recently came across a little indie project called Kids
Vs Zombies!
So the premise for this film which begins shooting this side
of 2014 describes itself as follows: “A young brother and sister
work together to outwit a barrage of peculiar zombies, rescue their mom and
save the town”. Instantly my mind is taken back
to the 90’s when Macaulay Culkin was home alone and messed up a few small time
crooks with a series of elaborate and painful traps.
Some
might argue that Home Alone sends the wrong message to kids about how to
respond to a home invasion, others would say it’s a movie and it is the role of
the parents to teach their kids what to do in an emergency, my dad would say
who is Macaulay Culkin? Frankly, if zombies
decided to rock up at a kid’s playground, I would want my child to be able to
respond accordingly and kick some zombie ass, so I hope Kids Vs Zombies takes
that idea on board and presents the audience with child focused survival tips as
well as some laughs along the way.
Another
project with slightly similar themes is a film from the producers of Saw and
Paranormal Activity called Cooties! Now
everybody loves a good dose of girls and boys germs but imagine a virus that
rips through a primary school turning little kiddies into flesh hungry zombies –
HELL YEAH!! I’m sure more than a few of
you wanted to see a not so favourite teacher pinned against the wall with blood
hungry little monsters out for revenge!!
I
have to say I’m looking forward to both of these projects and I’m always more
than happy to venture into the wacky and unbelievable. Will these movies offend people, probably a
few, will my nephews and nieces be better off in the apocalypse if I include
this as essential holiday viewing, damn right they will!!

Don't Look Back: TWD Trailer!!
Hey everyone, so the internet went into meltdown when the
new trailer for the second half of The Walking Dead Season 4 dropped the other
day. I have to say all the attention was
certainly deserved as we are shown Rick and his remaining crew on the run and
of course some ooey gooey zombies!!!
Personally I felt that although there were some strong
moments in the first half of the season, I also felt the direction of the story
was somewhat lost, sort of like Paris Hilton’s career. But things looks like they are about to
change, as our beloved survivors finally leave the prison and set out on a new
adventure!
The BZF team are super excited to see how the rest of the
season plays out, and as per usual, we will be watching with eager eyes to gain
an insight into the apocalypse and if red lipstick is a sensible choice. Thoughts Mrs K??

Going camo!!
Just a quick Sunday post today to tide you all over till the return of 'Apocalypse Hal'.
Another must have item to add to your apocalypse makeup bag is a clay mask!! Why you ask? Well apart from giving your grimy survival skin a deep cleanse to get your pre apocalypse glow back I have also discovered, quite by accident I might add, it also doubles as face camo!! So on those nights when you are on a raid and need to be hidden from not only zombies but other survivors with less then good intentions, slap some on and your good to go! I would recommend leaving the pink turban back at base camp however.

Rewind Review: The Video Dead
This week I am bringing you a new segment where I dig up
some old and unknown zombie films from the grave. Most of these titles will be unfamiliar to
the average zombie film viewer, and most of the titles will be ‘average’ by any
standard but there is something fun about seeing the practical effects, bad
acting and silly plot lines.
This week’s Rewind Review is ‘The Video Dead’ from 1987. The film focuses on Zoe and Jeff, an
unassuming brother and sister pair who move into a new house and discover a mysterious TV in the
basement. Jeff decides to get stoned one
night and watch TV, the only problem is that the TV plays just one black and white movie called Zombie Blood Nightmare.
What poor Jeff doesn't realise is that by watching the movie, it allows the
zombies to come into the real world and do some 80’s zombie damage!
I am pleased to report that The Video Dead does have a few
original ideas to present. For example,
the zombies don’t know they are dead which is described as a ‘liminal’ state
between life and death. For this reason
the zombies kill the living out of envy and react with disgust when they see
their own reflection.
The zombies also communicate quite freely with each other
via a series of grunts, groans and sinister laughing which is great for team
work or cornering the maid. Luckily for
those with nerves of steel, if you approach the zombies with no fear then you
are able to interact with them without getting your pancreas ripped out, YAY!!!
I’m not sure I would recommend this film based on the
overall subpar production values, but I did have a few chuckles along the way
so if you have nothing better to do, then knock yourself out! Below are five reasons why you should or
shouldn’t watch The Video Dead:
- There is a Poodle called Chocolate who enjoys mating with skunks and meets an untimely death.
- There is a wannabe porn star that has no purpose to be in the film except to show off her goodies.
- Takes one up on The Ring’s water leaking TV and leaks blood instead.
- One zombie takes an iron to the head. Ouch!
- Who doesn't love a bad 80’s zombie movie??
I'm looking forward to bringing you more movies from the vault
with Rewind Reviews soon!!

The Last Supper
It is no secret that the BZF crew enjoy a good meal out
together, whether it is a steaming hot bowl of Pho over lunch or Mr Vitamin G’s
famous American Style Smoky Baby Back Ribs. Even when we’re not out enjoying
such fine cuisine, it seems we do talk a lot about food to help pass those
long, tedious days in the office.
As we all know, the early days of the zombie apocalypse are
likely to creep up on us slowly. News of a mishap at the CDC is leaked, strange
stories on the news of people turning on each other, rioting on the streets and
then before you know it, zombies knocking down your front door. If you can read
the signs early you’ll know what’s coming and if you’ve been reading these
posts carefully, you’ll know how to prepare.
The question perplexing the BZF team this week is: if you
knew the zombie apocalypse was imminent, what would your last meal be and why? Keep
in mind that it may be your last chance for a decent meal before you have to
resort to cooking up Squirrel Sausages or other Roadkill Recipes (see my next
post for details!).
Would you choose a fat juicy steak, Peking duck with a side
of dumplings or maybe a roast with all the trimmings (yes, I know these are all
meat dishes, the BZF team is definitely carnivorous!)? Personally, I could
think of nothing better to prepare myself for a long hard zombie war than a
homemade lasagne with a good bottle of red wine, my ultimate comfort food.
But
that’s just me, what would your last supper be?

Happy 2014 Everyone!!
Greetings to our zombie friends old and new, BZF is back and
we are here to bring you all the latest zombie gossip, survival tips and of course how to
look your best in the apocalypse!!! 2013
was a massive year here at BZF and 2014 promises even more!
The Australian summer this year has been a scorcher so we
need to do our best to keep cool with all this heat. BZF fan Miss E who brought Zombie Chews to my
attention last year has now given us the scoop on an amazing discovery!
When you can’t stand the heat, all you need to do is grab
yourself one of these!!!
Ok I have to be honest with you all, I haven’t tasted one of
these scrumptious treats but it’s on my must eat list for this weekend and
judging by the flavours Snot and Guts I’m sure they are bloody delicious!
