Halloween!

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year, you get to dress up in great costumes, watch some scary movies and pig out on truckloads of candy.

Having just moved into my new place this year, I thought it was a great opportunity to hold a Halloween party with a twist.  Each room was set up with a different theme and the guests had a set of directions to follow when they arrived.  Mr N and I decided to include ourselves in the ‘experience’ and hide in strategic places to deliver the best scares.
Once our guests had all been through the house we sat down to a short zombie film from VHS 2, followed by some horror movie trivia which resulted in the highest and lowest scoring players having to complete some gory tasks.  The first was the retrieval of some severed body parts in the red jelly bath and the other was to visit the ‘Pet Semmetary’ to dig up poor old Church – who was surprisingly stuffed with candy!  We also decided to have a Blair Witch moment and offer the chance for everyone to tell their very own real life scary story and then watched them back all together.
Lucky for our BZF fans, you guys get to see this all first-hand!  That’s right, much of the evening was caught on film and you can check out our Halloween party below!

The BZF team wish you a super scary Halloween and hope you all have as much fun as we did!

What Zombies taste like...

In general, zombies spend most of their time chomping on the living, but last week I sank my teeth into a sweet juicy Zombie Chew!!  A BZF fan, Miss E was thanking me for some assistance I had provided with her computer, in return she presented to me my new favourite food group:

How I didn’t know about this scrumptious treat weighed heavily on my heart, but I moved on quickly and consumed my very first Zombie Chew in a very enthusiastic manner.  Let me offer a warning straight up, these babies are CHEWY, so if you have braces or any form of dentures you might want to approach with caution.
Having eaten my first Zombie Chew within around 4 minutes, I felt as though I had ingested a Teletubbie covered in icing sugar wrapped in Honey Boo Boo.  I also began to notice some interesting symptoms which included a fuzzy tongue, an uncontrollable urge to act like a hyperactive 4 year old and the need to drink copious amounts of water.
It did cross my mind for a split second that the Zombie Chew might  be the product of a brilliant masterminds plan to fast track the apocalypse via delicious candies with unpronounceable ingredients, but then I fell sharply into a sugar coma and came to the conclusion that the only thing to improve my sunken state was to have more!!!

Please consume responsibly.

Apocalypse Hal - Kiddie Krafts

Apologises to all my adoring fans being a bit late with this week's post (Sorry mum it has been a busy week).

Anyway, as Halloween is just around the corner why get the kids doing some fun crafting.

Using washes for shadows and dry brush for highlights is a great technique for creating textures on items. I use it all the time on my projects. Here is the necklace I whipped up for the Halloween party using the technique. Was going for that diseased look.

Apocalypse Hal - Paddy Melon Beer

October means Oktoberfest so I decided to add beer to the menu. If you are game enough to drink it.

Ok so it is not technically beer as it has no hops or malt. And yes mum I know the barmaid has a big set of steins - they like their beer mugs big in Germany.

The Walking Dead is back!

The Walking Dead Season 4 has landed and I am more excited than a naked Miley on a wrecking ball!!
I have to say season 3 was a bit of a mixed bag for me, there were moments of greatness and then moments of meh.  I have tried my hardest not to read up too much on the upcoming season, however I have read that they are upping the action with more twists and turns to give the show a bit of a boost – Yay!
I do however have many questions that I hope are answered in season 4 like, will Carl finally get a haircut?  Is Beth going to continue singing at people to make them feel better?  Or will Daryl get his shirt off and tell Carol how he really feels?!?  Despite these pressing questions, the BZF crew will wait until the second episode has aired so we can watch them back to back – one episode is just never enough!!
Such is the excitement for season 4 of the Walking Dead, that some of our BZF readers have sent in bits and pieces that we really had to share.  A big shout out to Mr L all the way from Versailles France, who sent through a hilarious Walking Dead parody called The Walking Dumb (Ways To Die) – it was posted on Youtube at the end of last year and you have to watch all the way to the end just for the jazz hands!

Apocalypse Hal - Caring 4 Zombies

This week (13 - 19 October) is Carer's Week in Australia. This of course raises the question - "So how you care for a zombie?"

I got these handy tips from a zombie website. It turns out they are care instructions for handmade zombie dolls that they sell. Still I think their tips would work with real zombies too. Expect maybe the one about hanging them from your car rear vision mirror.

Smart Zombies!

Zombies have a well-known reputation for being mindless people eating machines and for being somewhat brainless, yet in popular fiction they are able to over throw governments, law enforcement and common society.

Do you have the goods to survive the zombie apocalypse?  Do you have the skills to make it through the outbreak and avoid the panic?  I’m not talking about a medical kit and a few cans of soup, rather the mental preparedness to keep it all together and save not only your life but your loved ones too.
If you have answered no to any of the questions above (don’t feel bad, I only just found out Teal was a colour) help is on the way thanks to the University of California!  Confused?  How would you like to take a course in Society, Science, Survival:  Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead – if your heart stopped for a second, I kid you not, this is the real deal.
The course aims to help you understand basic social identities, the spread of disease, how to protect yourself all while using The Walking Dead as a basis for the zombie apocalypse.  Who ever thought that a university course would be the best place to start when arming yourself for the worst, but didn’t someone say that ‘knowledge is power’.
Even better, the cost of enrolment is free and it runs from October 14 to December 20, so if your interested in achieving an A+ for your apocalypse survival, then you better be quick!  To find out more information, check out the University of California’s website.

Apocalpse Hal - Resilience

October 10 is World Mental Health Day so it's appropriate to look at some resilience tips for living in a zombie ridden world. After all, they say it is mind over matter.

Now sleeping well and eating healthy may be a bit tricky in a zombie world but you would get lots of exercise outrunning the living dead.

Quotes are (top) Woodrow Wilson  (bottom) "Ike" Eisenhower.

Zombie Abs

When I told my mum that I was going to start writing for an online blog, she made me promise that I would keep my manners and my dignity.  Sadly the second part of my promise has been partially broken.

This week I’m bringing the boys out there some hot zombie fashion with an unexpected twist.  Mr Rimsky alerted me to the fact that one of our local retailers has released a line of zombie themed T-Shirts, so off I went on a little shopping expedition!
Mrs K has always done a great job bringing the girls important post-apocalyptic fashion tips and I thought this was a great opportunity to give the guys a turn, especially with The Walking Dead season 4 beginning in approximately 2 weeks!

Yes, as you can see I am wetting myself with excitement about Season 4 of The Walking Dead and yes I will be wearing this T-Shirt on premiere night (Miss Sugar & Spice, are we doing takeaway Pizza or Thai?)

So on first viewing this T-Shirt appears to have a simple humorous tag, but wait, there’s more!

Sorry mum for the excess skin, I’ll try to keep that to a minimum in future, oh and I’m doing my Tap Out XT training, so those zombie abs are hopefully on their way!

I love that guys fashion is getting a bit more playful and when zombies are involved I’m pretty much there!  As we roll into October, Halloween seems only a stone’s throw away, so boys you have no excuse not to look your best!
